Luke Smith, University of Warwick, FIND CDT Cohort 2020-2024
I’ve had a lot of fun doing my PhD with FIND. The CDT’s events have put me in contact with a lot of incredibly knowledgeable people that have helped me to develop skills needed in both academia and industry. Through Warwick University I have had lots of opportunity to get involved with other projects including working with industrial partners and doing outreach in schools.
Mikolaj Mroszczak, Imperial College London, FIND CDT Cohort 2019-2023
I have done EngD research into the applications of Machine Learning in Guided Wave Testing. After completing my research, I joined Faculty, a London-based consultancy, focusing on AI applications in the public sector. During my work there, I extensively used the technical knowledge I gained during my research, but definitely the most important were the drive and ability to structure and communicate my work to business stakeholders.
I have left Faculty and moved back to Poland, where I have taken lead of the AI Team at the Centre for Information Technology – an in-house organisation of the Ministry for Digitisation tasked with implementing AI solutions across the Polish public sector.
Naomi Shipway Imperial College London, CDT Cohort 2015-2019
The guidance I have received during my EngD has been second to none. The opportunity to work with academics with so much experience and contacts has been so helpful.
Rob Hughes University of Warwick, CDT Cohort 2011-2015
The scheme gave me a solid foundation of essential transferable skills whilst granting me the responsibility, freedom and flexibility I needed to develop my own interests and pursue my own goals.
Don Pieris University of Nottingham, CDT Cohort 2016-2021
Highlights would be the variety of small projects I have had the opportunity to be involved in as part of my university research group. Also being part of the RR EngD network committee.
